Economic development was a big topic at Tuesday’s Gadsden City Council meeting as the city approved financial incentives for an Alabama City grocery store and will hold a public hearing for incentives for a new LongHorn Steakhouse.
The city held a public hearing and approved an agreement with Beltline Canterberry LLC for a Mi Pueblo Supermarket, which will be in the old Food World building at Canterberry Station, 2519 W. Meighan Blvd.
Mi Pueblo is a multicultural supermarket with several locations in Alabama. It is expected to generate annual sales of more than $8 million and employ at least 30 people.
“This is much needed for Alabama City’s grocery store,” said Councilman Johnny Cannon. “It’s been a long time coming, and I appreciate everyone that has had something to do with trying to get it for us.”
